"Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm."
Ephesians 6:13 (NLT)
My friend once worked for a security company. Before he started his shift he would put on the bullet-proof vest, his badge, his utility belt, and finally, his gun. He told me once that when you dress like that, it not only prepares you for the shift you are to work, but it also changes your mindset. You are now "in a constant state of readiness".
By being outfitted, your mindset changes. By strapping on the equipment, your level of readiness increases. Your brain turns on a different gear. Your senses are heightened. Your awareness is more keen. You are ready for danger. You are prepared to provide security to those you are charged to protect. It's your job.
I think that's Paul's instruction to us. Put on those pieces of armor listed in Ephesians chapter six. You don't dress to make a big show, you do it so that you are equipped and in a state of readiness. You put on the armor to prepare for the battle that might or might not come. Either way, you are ready. Either way, you are prepared.
We must live in a state of readiness and the best way to do that is to put on the equipment that God has given us and face the day with a mind prepared for whatever comes our way.
