"Instead, I have calmed and quieted myself.."
Psalm 131:2a
What a powerful word.
Rather than one thing, I choose another. Over this, I elect that. In place of option A, I experience the benefit of option B.
The Psalmist knew the importance of this word: Instead.
We exist in a whirlwind of confusion, loneliness and fear, when Instead we could flourish in the comfort of God's love.
We struggle with jealousy, distrust and anger, when Instead we could ease into the calm of a quiet morning in God's presence.
We wrestle with passions that overwhelm, and crushing disappointment that freezes us in place, when Instead we could embrace the reassurance and renewal of God's power and grace.
We have the ability to choose on which side of the word we elect to live.
What do you choose today?
