"But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night."
Psalm 1:2
When is the last time you found absolute delight? What brings you so much joy that you "light up" at the very thought of it? Perhaps time with a spouse or significant other and the memories of what first drew you together? Is it the first time your child wrapped their tiny fingers around your own, or gave you a grin of recognition? Is it the time you spend with your pets? Or your grand-children? Is it fond memories of family gatherings, holidays, Christmas or birthday celebrations?
I have some friends who, if they were asked this question, would respond without hesitation: Disney!
They are crazy about the place! They plan months in advance for their next visit. They get the best wrist bands and wear all the Disney paraphernalia. They adore the characters. They relish every moment in the parks. They find delight in the slightest mention of what many consider the most magical place on earth.
The Psalmist reminds us that there is another thing that can bring us light and life. Meditating on, thinking about, pondering deeply on God's Word can provide that same exciting energy. You might find that hard to believe if you are a true Disney Nut, but it's true.
Imagine if you were to spent a week living in the idea that God created you just one step below the Almighty Himself? (Psalm 8:5) Or if we lived in the truth that despite all that is happening in the world (COVID, Ukraine, inflation, global warming, just to name a few) we could still "experience God's peace"? (Phil 4:7)
What if we mediated, thought about, pondered and actually lived in these truths? It truly could be magical.
